HOW DOES IT WORK?
MORE THAN JUST A PROCESS CONTROL SERVER
The purpose of process control is to help make color reproduction consistent, predictable and reproducible.
Alwan PrintStandardizer (APS) allows you to achieve that and to print unequaled color quality with CMYK, Spot and Multicolor printing processes. APS also helps you maintain color accuracy throughout the print run and from job to job.
Alwan PrintStandardizer (APS) is an intelligent and automated calibration system that identifies, corrects and maintains printer tone reproduction (dot gain) curves and gray balance, hence eliminating manual systems and human errors. No specific color bar, instrument or dedicated calibration session is needed to use the software, usual production tools and practices can be maintained. APS allows you to monitor and maintain your ISO or G7®️ curves in real-time, automatically and without human intervention.
ISO 12647, ISO 15339 and G7®️ conformance have gained wide acceptance worldwide and many print buyers and brand owners require them from printers. However, achieving press conformance for every job is a tedious and costly task that requires time and skilled resources. Alwan PrintStandardizer (APS) monitors your ISO or G7®️ curves in real-time, and, when press curves change due to substrate or printing conditions, adjustment curves are automatically built and sent to prepress for CTP correction of the next job. APS is the industry-first calibration server that received ISO and G7®️ system certification more than 10 years ago.
A printing process is a moving target that needs to be monitored and adjusted regularly, measuring one control strip is not enough to model its behavior and compensate for its deviations, this is particularly true for conventional presses.
Alwan PrintStandardizer (APS) smart calibration reads industry-standard measurement files, filters measurements to eliminate irrelevant or aberrant values, and modelizes the “natural” behavior of the press during a predefined sampling period.
APS smart curves are the guarantee that your press will match ISO or G7®️ curves for every job.
Spot color conformance is paramount for many printed products such as labels and packaging.
Even though spot color solids can be relatively easy to achieve on press using spot color inks, spot color tints are harder to proof and match on press.
Alwan PrintStandardizer allows you to calibrate your printing press to the latest ISO 20654 standard for spot colors (SCTV) making spot color tints and overprints predictable and accurate.
Alwan’s PDF and Web Interface reporting enable you to monitor your production in real-time. Measured ink zones solids, dot gain, overprints, contrast, gray balance, mid-tone spread etc. are calculated and displayed to help the press operator adjust printing conditions to reach aim values. During production, Alwan PrintStandardizer (APS) delivers a Sheet report for every measurement and, after production, APS delivers a Production report for the completed job. APS Sheet and Production reports are compliant with ISO 12647-2 ISO 15339 and G7®️ conformance assessment requirements.
Process control and regular curve correction with Alwan PrintStandardizer (APS) allow printers to significantly reduce their make-ready time and waste. APS users show a reduction of make-readies of a sheetfed offset press from almost 1000 sheets to less than 100 sheets (-90%), and total elimination of reprint issues. Similar improvement can also be achieved on web-offset and other conventional processes. More savings for you, fewer wastes for the environment!
Hydra Profiling®️, Alwan’s patented spectral profiling technology, builds accurate 4-7 color profiles from a very small number of patches. These patches can be included in the process control color bar or a separate Hydra chart.
Hydra profiling®️ is an option of Alwan PrintStandardizer.
When process solids and tone reproduction curves (TRC) are controlled and maintained, press output becomes stable and predictable.
Alwan PrintStandardizer’s (APS) allows you to monitor and correct your press curves whenever necessary to achieve the same color output despite changes in printing substrates, conditions and technologies. Moreover, APS smart curve correction will help you significantly improve your grayscale and near-neutral color stability.
CMYK + additional inks - usually OGV inks - are used to increase the gamut of a print device.
This process is called HiFi for High Fidelity ECG for Expanded Color Gamut, multicolor or fixed palette.
HiFi/ECG processes are increasingly used to print spot colors without spot ink. This is particularly true for offset and narrow-band conventional presses.
Alwan PrintStandardizer allows you to monitor and more importantly, calibrate your CMYK and OGV channels to better control the 7 color reproduction.
Combined with Alwan ColorHub multicolor separation, HiFi/ECG printing becomes easier to implement for most prepress and printing companies. HiFi/ECG is an option of Alwan PrintStandardizer.

ISO 12647 AND G7 CERTIFIED SYSTEM
APS is the first process control system to receive ISO 12647 and G7® certifications. This is a guarantee that any sheet and job that passes APS assessment will pass any customer or third-party audit.
Alwan PrintStandardizer even allows you to go the extra mile by setting your own standard or your own custom scoring system for your sheet and job assessments.
